Alert message sent 08/01/2021 10:05:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

We are appealing for witnesses to an attempt burglary, and theft from motor vehicle, in Andover.

The incident happened at around 1.10am Wednesday, 6 January, at an address on Bishops Way.

Two men forced entry into the victim’s vehicle and stole personal items inside before trying to gain entry into the address.

A small amount of black tape was found at the scene which is believed to have been used to disable the security lights.

Officers investigating are keen to hear from anyone who has information that could assist their enquiries.

Did you see anyone suspicious in the area at the time? Perhaps you recognise the descriptions?

Anyone with information is asked to phone 101 with reference 44210005481. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111.

We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of some crime prevention advice on how you can protect yourself from this type of offending:

Burglary:
  • Shut all windows and lock them when you are not using the room, at night and when you leave your property.
  • Lock all front and rear doors at night and when you are out. If you have a UPVC door with a multi-point lock ensure you lift the handle and lock it with the key. Remove the key after the door or window is locked.
  • Put all car keys and other keys out of sight and not in reach of windows and letterboxes. It doesn't take much for the keys to be hooked through the letterbox.
  • Leave a light on so your home looks occupied if you are going out for the evening. If you head out while it is still daylight and won't be back till after dark then timer switches (available from most DIY stores) can be useful for turning your lights, radios and other appliances on at a set time before you get back.
  • Ensure side gates are locked to prevent access to the rear of the property.
  • Do not leave ladders and garden tools in your garden; lock them away in your shed.

Theft from a vehicle:
  • Park your vehicle in a secure area, such as in a garage or behind locked gates of possible, or in easy view of yours or a neighbour’s house.
  • Avoid parking in dark, secluded areas. It’s worth an extra five or ten minute walk if it means your vehicle is left in a well-lit and busier street.
  • Do not leave tools or equipment on view inside the vehicle
  • Where possible, remove valuable items from the vehicle overnight and store them in a secure location.
  • Keep your car fob/key in a signal blocking pouch and store it as far away from the front door as possible at night, to prevent it being scanned by thieves
  • Always lock your vehicle
  • Double check your electric locking – manually check that the doors are locked before walking away
  • Consider the use of CCTV, security lighting and a house alarm
