Emergency Alert Test 7 Sept - Safeguarding Vulnerable people

Good afternoon,

You may already be aware, the UK Government will be testing the public Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September at 3.00pm, which will consist of a loud, siren-like sound and vibration on all 4G and 5G mobile phones for up to 10 seconds.

Alert systems such as this are used across the world in cases of extreme weather and other circumstances and save lives.

However, we should be aware of the impact on domestic abuse victims and survivors and other vulnerable people who may have concealed phones. Refuge have produced guidance, including a short video, for anyone affected by this issue to advise how vulnerable people can opt out of receiving the message via the settings area on phones.
