Theft from garages BRIGHTON HILL

Alert message sent 07/10/2021 22:59:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Dear Residents,
I would like to make you aware of a series of garage breaks around the BRIGHTON HILL area recently, and offer you some safeguarding advice.

Between 06/10/21 and 07/10/21 persons unknown have attempted entry to the garages behind CHOPIN ROAD using a screwdriver to the main lock of each garage door.

Between 28/09/21 and 04/10/21 a garage in GRAINGER CLOSE was broken into and several items stolen.  An orange Voodoo bicycle, a white and blue Giant bicycle and a white, red and blue Honda motorcycle, index E659HCD.  Camping equipment was also taken.

Two mobility scooters were stolen from a garage in PORTER ROAD between the 20/09/21 and 21/09/21.

Crime prevention advice:
If you have expensive items in your garage please check to make sure they are covered by your insurance if stolen.

Secure your bike or mobility scooter to the ground or a lockable stand within a locked shed or garage.

Consider a battery-operated shed alarm. They look low key but they respond to movement or door contact with an extremely loud siren.

Property marking your items is advisable and some tools can be painted with your name or postcode.

Securing your garage door:
Fit a garage door blocker on the outside of the door. This product bolts permanently to the floor, has a large ‘T’ bar shaped restrictor and a quality locking device.
Consider fitting a pair of garage door locks that are fitted either vertically or horizontally and can be locked either from the inside or outside of the garage.
Install dead bolts mounted one on each edge of the door inside the garage. When in use, the locks throw a bolt into the door frame or the concrete floor of the garage.
Various good quality ‘up and over’ or ‘rolling’ deadlocking door handles can be purchased to replace any existing poor quality locks to give better security.
