Recent significant police activity in Hedge End

Alert message sent 02/10/2020 16:18:00

Information sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary

Hello everyone,

We are aware that many of the local community have highlighted on social media a significant police at a Co-Operative supermarket car park at 10.15am on Thursday 1 October.

This followed reports of a man threatened a relative with a machete on Romsey Road, who subsequently left the vicinity in a vehicle. The vehicle was followed by a number of our specialist officers after it was spotted travelling through Botley and came to a natural stop in the Co-Operative car park in Hedge End.

A 50-year-old man from Cadnam was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. No weapon was located in the vehicle.

After investigating the incident, a decision was made to take no further action as there was insufficient evidence.

While we appreciate the community’s willingness to shed light on incidents or crimes that they see happening, on occasions, reports on social media may end up having a detrimental impact on the progression of any investigation. As these reports often provide conflicting information. They can also have a potentially negative impact on the local community by raising the fear of crime unnecessarily.

As such we would implore local residents to continue to report any suspicious activity or crimes directly to the police in the first instance via our online reporting tool or by calling 101.

Please be rest assured that Hedge Edge remains a safe place to live and work.
