Hampshire Cyber Watch is now launched

Alert message sent 01/10/2020 11:49:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

This is a message from the Chairman  - Hampshire Neighbourhood Watch Association to Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators to distribute to their members as appropriate.

'I am delighted to announce that our Cyber Champions are now ready to start supporting NW members in Hampshire and IOW via the Hampshire Cyber Watch (HCW) website.
Thanks go to Mike Anthony (Eastleigh NW Chairman) and our Cyber Champions along with Hampshire Police Cyber Crime unit who have developed an online ‘Helpdesk’ for us.

We asked for volunteers from NW members to support this helpdesk - and we now have a team of 13 NW Cyber Champions who have been vetted and trained by our Police and are ready and willing to help us all in the fight against Cyber Crime.

The Cyber Champion's role is two-fold:

1.   Answer urgent requests for help with suspected scams, how to report them, what to do if you think you are a victim or think you have a virus on your computer.
To ask for urgent help, contact the NW Cyber Champions on their website at www.hampshirecyberwatch.org and click Support.

2.   Give advice about scams and improving cyber security for your devices, applications or software.
This advice can be given to groups (when Covid allows) or at present by video conferencing (eg via Zoom) with groups or directly with members.
To request a talk from a Cyber Champion go to the HCW website at www.hampshirecyberwatch.org and click Contact Us.

Please take a look at the HCW website www.hampshirecyberwatch.org – so you understand what’s being offered here – and contact Mike Anthony (mikea.hcw.heldesk@gmail.com) if you need any further explanation.

Initially this service is being publicised to NW members, family and friends – but in the near future it will be offered to a wider audience which will help to show how NW continues to serve our community. It is also hoped to offer a telephone 'Helpdesk' for urgent support sometime in the future.

Below is a briefing note that I hope you will circulate to your NW Coordinators inviting them to share this scheme with all of their members, family and friends.

Kind regards

Bob Combes
Chairman  - Hampshire Neighbourhood Watch Association'

Hampshire Cyber Watch,

can give you, your members, friends and family help to protect yourself against cyber crime.

With support from Hants Police Cyber Crime Unit we now have a team of 13 NW Cyber
Champions across Hampshire who have been trained to help any of us who, for example, need advice about:
1. Improving the security of their devices, applications or software.
2. Scams, how to report them and what to do if you think you are a victim of a cyber scam.

Cyber Champions will help combat Cyber Crime by:
• providing ‘one to one’ (online or phone) support to anyone who is concerned about communications they have received, or anyone who believes they may be a victim of cyber crime and
• giving talks to groups to increase awareness of cyber scams and ways to help keep safe online.

To ask for urgent help, contact the NW Cyber Champions on their website at
www.hampshirecyberwatch.org
and click Support.

To request a talk from a Cyber Champion go to the HCW website at
www.hampshirecyberwatch.org
and click Contact Us.

Initially we are publicising this service to NW members (and hence their families and friends), though we will not turn anyone away if they need help.

It is intended that this service will, after a period of ‘shakedown’, be published more widely and offered to anyone living in Hampshire (over the age of 13).

To see what’s on offer and how to ask for help please go to the Hampshire Cyber Watch website at

www.hampshirecyberwatch.org
.
For more information, please contact Mike Anthony (mikea.hcw.helpdesk@gmail.com)
