We’re investigating a number of thefts from vehicles in the Chineham and the town centre of Basingstoke which have happened recently.
We are following several lines of enquiries and carrying out patrols in the areas affected.
As part of our work to tackle the issue, we’re taking the opportunity to remind residents and shoppers of the simple steps that can be taken to help deter thieves.
One easy thing, especially at this time of year, is to not leave Christmas presents for all to see in your car – take them inside and if you are leaving them in your car while out and about, lock them in the boot out of sight.
This is the same for sat naves, phones and any personal documents – don’t leave them in your car because if they are left in view, the temptation is sadly too much for some to resist.
We also know that the festivities leaves everyone rushing around and it is easy to forget things, but please try to remember to lock your cars – thieves will try their luck with door handles and if it isn’t locked, they won’t hesitate to take what’s inside, wrapped Christmas presents especially.
People often don’t realise that small change on show can also act as an invitation to thieves, so put that out of sight.
Just take a minute before you leave your car and double check, it could make all the difference.
We will keep you updated with the progress of our investigations.
